Gospel and flamenco may seem opposite poles in the geography of sound, but they are closer than it may seem at first.
The piano player Ramon Escalé and the singer Paula Domínguez demonstrate this in an original, bold and enthusiast proposal.
Fruit of an intense year of joint work, Escalé and Domínguez have managed to make the old spirituals and the more contemporary songs adapt with ease the melismas and the aromas of flamenco.
Versioning the legacy of Afro-American music, this project was born from a research of the roots in order to project themselves towards a fusion in which these two worlds complement and enrich each other.
After a period of experimenting, they have materialized in an ambitious show the result of their work: A passionate pianist with Afro-American roots and the voice of a woman from Malaga who lives in Barcelona sharing a new space where they share origins and at the same time give rise to an innovative amalgam where jondura and soul, the soul and the holyghost come together in harmony.
The result of this fusion manages to allow Ramón Escalé’s piano and Paula Domínguez’s voice to broaden the horizons of tradition.
